Teaching Panel Member of eMAP - e Module Application for Panchakarma

Panchkarma is getting popularized day by day and because of its popularity, apart from the regular undergraduate and postgraduate courses on Panchkarma formulated by NCISM many institutions are emerging out with newer courses on it. This makes the scenario more complicated. Even though teaching, learning and practice of Panchkarma is based on the ancient texts of Ayurveda there are many drawbacks in the present status of learning and teaching. Understanding and application of Panchkarma in various parts of the country differ, similarly the practice also. To bring uniformity and standards in the present status of teaching and learning process we need to strengthen the Domain of Panchkarma by means of information technology and audio-visual aids. Also, we need to concentrate on the part of skill development. Panchkarma being completely practice oriented has to improve the skill of the teacher and student in order to strengthen Panchkarma. Keeping this in mind the project has been designed, “eMAP – e Module Application for Panchkarma” which is funded by Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth, Ministry of Ayush, New Delhi and implemented by Amrita School of Ayurveda, Kollam, Kerala.

The e-MAP project is an online interactive portal that serves as a one-stop reference for information related to the Panchkarma specialty of Ayurveda. It is a comprehensive directory to search for hospitals, physicians, post-graduate programs, institutions, equipment suppliers, dissertations, publications, informative videos, and so on. The e-MAP project is an online e-learning module application for the Panchkarma specialty of Ayurveda. The Web portal offers learning modules that include lesson plans, audio files of sloka recitation, illustrative animations, and self-assessment aids on undergraduate and postgraduate Panchkarma syllabi. The project was launched on March 10th 2023 by Dr. Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush. Dr. Jayant Deopujari, Chairman, NCISM, Dr. Kousthubha Upadhyaya, Adviser, MoA, Dr. Tanuja Nesari, Director, All India Institute of Ayurveda, along with Dr. Venkat Rangan, Vice Chancellor, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Swami Sankaramirtananda Puri, Dean, Amrita school of Ayurveda were present on this occasion.

EFFECT OF VAITARANA VASTI IN COMPARISON WITH VRISHADI VASTI IN GRIDHRASI: A RESEARCH STUDY PUBLISHED IN INTERNATIONAL AYURVEDIC MEDICAL JOURNAL(IAMJ); ISSN:-23205091; IMPACT FACTOR:5.344; Dec 2019 – Jan 2020 (Volume 4, Issue 2)

Abstract

Walking without any difficulties is a major requirement in human life. In Gridhrasi the subject’s walking style simulates to that of gridhra due to nature of pain. Snehana, Swedana, Virechana, Vasti, Siravyadha and Agni karma are lines of treatment of Gridhrasi as expounded in the Ayurvedic literature. The Vyaktasthana of Gridhrasi is Adhakaya starting from Kati and Uru, Janu, Jangha and Pada which is also the sthana of Vayu, so Vasti can be adopted as the best treatment option.

30 subjects suffering from Gridhrasifulfilling the inclusion criteria belonging to either sex was selected for the study. They were randomly categorized into two groups, Group A (Vaitarana Vasti) and Group B (Vrishadi Vasti) consisting of 15 subjects in each group.

Result:

The Therapy under Group A provided relief ranging from 66.67% to 91.30%, with an average of 80.38%. The Therapy under Group B provided relief ranging from 72.41% to 90.48%, with an average of 81.45%.

Conclusion:

The comparative efficacy of Group A with Group B was not significant showing both groups provided good relief in various parameters of Gridhrasi.

The Impact Of Ayurvedic Panchakarma Therapy On Hormonal Imbalance In Women

Hormonal imbalances in women are increasingly recognised as a significant health issue globally, manifesting in conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, infertility, and irregular menstrual cycles. These imbalances are often linked to contemporary lifestyle factors, including stress, inadequate nutrition, and exposure to environmental pollutants. Conventional medical treatments tend to focus on managing symptoms through hormonal therapies, which can come with side effects and may not tackle the underlying causes. Ayurveda, an ancient medicinal system, advocates for restoring balance through natural methods, with Panchakarma as a key detoxification and rejuvenation technique. This therapy consists of five purification processes—Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya, and Raktamokshana—designed to remove toxins, balance the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha), and restore hormonal equilibrium. This review examines the role of Panchakarma therapy in addressing hormonal imbalances among women, integrating traditional Ayurvedic insights with modern scientific research. Recent studies suggest that Panchakarma can enhance endocrine function, improve metabolic health, and support reproductive wellness by focusing on vital physiological mechanisms, including liver detoxification, gut microbiota regulation, and adrenal function modulation. Specific Ayurvedic herbs, such as Ashwagandha, Shatavari, and Guduchi, used alongside Panchakarma, have been shown to offer adaptogenic properties and help regulate hormones. Additionally, these therapies appear to alleviate stress-induced hormonal imbalances by lowering cortisol levels and enhancing the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. The effectiveness of Panchakarma may vary based on individual factors like body constitution (Prakriti), commitment to follow-up care after treatment, and lifestyle changes. Further comprehensive clinical trials and integrative studies are necessary to understand its efficacy compared to traditional endocrine therapies fully. This review emphasises the potential of Panchakarma as a holistic and sustainable strategy for managing hormonal imbalances in women, which might facilitate its incorporation into conventional medical approaches.
